What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?


In order for my magazine to be successful I would need to release it to the public thick and fast. This is because a mainstreamer may not want to try something new so therefore I need to make it seem as built into the industry as possible. This would be done with lots of advertising campaigns and also a major deal siging with a big publisher such as IPC who have theyre own distributing company Market Force. I think my magazine would be well suited with IPC as they currently have brands such as NME and Nuts under the heading of young men and music. I believe my magazine would be a good addition to this area of IPC as they have limited brands under this category and my magazine fills the requirements for this area and is sufficiently different from the other brands to not steal any readers. When selling my magazine I would emphasise on the large target range for my audience. As my target audience is “mainstreamers”, this is people who are current and arent looking to change trends challenge society but instead be a part of trends and the society. Mainstreamers like what is happening now, so they like the charts which are played on most radio stations and especialy the more successful ones such a Heart, Kiss, and Radio 1. This means that my target audience would be exposed to advertising when listening to the radio. This is one possible route I could go down because if I made a deal with a radio station to advertise my magazine on their station, I could have their logo on my charts parge in the magazine to advertise their station. Also, this would mean when approaching brands which my audience would interested in, I could offer advertisement  of their brand on radio stations.

I believe my magazine would also sell well in supermarkets such as TESCO and Sainsburys but also shops such as WHSmith as again, this is where many people go shopping and would be seen as a “mainstream” shopping retailer. This would mean my target audience are going to be in an environment where they will be spending their money so this would be an ideal place to have my magazine. Also, it would be easy to get my magazine into these shops as IPC have partnerships with all of the shops mentioned. Again I would emphasise to the retailer about how their supermarket is a prime location for my target audience so therefore this is where sales are likely to happen and they will be making a profit from this.

Selling my target audience as a product to brands or advertisement would be easy due to the fact it is such a large audience who don't want to challenge norms. As the readers will have trust in Cloud 9, the will feel relaxed and in more of a state where they are likely to purchase items through the magazine. My magazine would be a prime place for well established brands to advertise due to the fact mainstreamers will be attracted to it.
